Whistler Events Working Committee (WEWC)
The WEWC is comprised of Whistler’s key Resort Partners including: Tourism Whistler, the Resort Municipality of Whistler, Whistler Blackcomb, Whistler Arts Council, Whistler Chamber of Commerce and Maurice Young Millennium Place. The WEWC meets monthly to review and discuss existing annual events that have taken place in Whistler and to consider event applications for public events that are held within the Resort.
The WEWC can offer expert advice and guidance on most types of events, and is a useful first point of contact whatever scale of event you are planning.
The WEWC also works closely with the Events Whistler Board who oversees Whistler’s event tourism at a strategic level. Events Whistler is a collaborative organization funded by the Resort Municipality of Whistler, Whistler Blackcomb, and Tourism Whistler, aimed at driving event tourism and generating a wide range of events to Whistler including facilitation of international events in Whistler during the years leading up to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Timeline
A successful event can easily take 12 months to put together. From the first glint of an idea at a committee meeting, through to the sight of crowds of happy people walking home from your successful celebration, there are a host of things to organize. If possible, be sure to submit your Whistler Event Application Form at least 10-12 months in advance of your event.
Why must we give so much notice for applications?
We receive several event applications each year and the assessment process is very thorough. All major events are discussed and approved by the WEWC at their scheduled monthly meetings. Each event is quite different and often other departments and/or the Events Whistler Board have to be consulted. The WEWC provides a 'one stop shop' system. That means you apply to us and we undertake all the liaison work on your behalf. By allowing plenty of time we can work with you to fine tune your event so that it is acceptable to all concerned.
